watercolor week four: tonality.

this past week in class we did a study in tonality and contrast.  our instructor covered our tables in white paper and then we used over head clip lamps with the room lights off to achieve the harsh shadows. everyone in the class had a different skull to paint, mine was the skull of a red fox.  some of the people thought this was a bit morbid and kinda gross, but all the bones were found naturally and then boiled and sterilized. we used india ink to achieve the really dark areas and laid all that in first and then using burnt sienna and medium yellow filled in the rest. this was my favorite class to date :)
